On February 5, 2023, as every year, a rally was held in Bialystok (Poland) to commemorate the victims of the first action in the Bialystok ghetto that was held between February 5 and 12, 1943.
Below is a brief translation of the publications about this event, that appeared in the press in Bialystok:
At 16.00 there was a meeting attended by 120 people, mostly young people. The meeting was dedicated to the book of Prof. Adam Dobronski "Jews of Bialystok, memorial pictures". The meeting took place at the cultural center in Bialystok named after Ludwig Zamanhof.
At 17.30 there was a parade of 80 torches that started where the entrance gate to the ghetto was. 80 torches as the number of years that have passed since the outbreak of the rebellion and the liquidation of the ghetto. The parade continued to the tombstone for the Bialystok ghetto rebels accompanied by music. There were several speeches, one of them by the deputy mayor. There they also placed the 80 torches.
At 19.00 theater actors BaWiMo and a theater group called Lachlom (this is the name of the group in Hebrew and the actors are of course Polish). These actors read excerpts from David Shapira's diary which was written and found in the ghetto and published in Polish by the Bialystok gallery Slendzinskich
There was also a duet concert by two musicians from Ukraine.
